WHAT TO EXPECT from WORKING TOGETHER

Different gut-related conditions have different root causes and manifest in the bodies of different people in different ways.

My goals are to help you to:

  • identify potential problems or areas of imbalance that may be contributing to your symptoms

  • improve gut function and digestion through nutrition and manageable changes to diet and lifestyle, that also support your broader health, energy and resilience.

When a client’s symptoms are chronic, I recommend we work with a ground-breaking stool test called the GI Effects Comprehensive Digestive Analysis, that helps us access deeper insights into the underlying functional imbalances, and in turn helps guide a more strategic nutritional approach, often including natural supplements.

Stool testing can give us information about:

  • your levels of abundance of healthy and ‘bad’ bacteria and potential for dysbiosis

  • the presence of parasitic infections, yeast or bacterial overgrowth

  • the health of the intestinal lining, inflammation levels and potential for food sensitivities

  • fat digestion, protein digestion and pancreatic function

When it comes to dietary change, I tend focus first on ensuring a client has consistent eating patterns, if they haven’t already, and look for opportunities to enhance dietary intake, including foods that support the beneficial microorganisms in the gut and support the immune system.

In my view, strict elimination diets can be very challenging, both practically and mentally, and not always necessary or helpful. I don’t advocate dietary restriction, unless we have good reason to believe specific foods need to be avoided. A Food Sensitivity Test is an option and typically results in the temporary exclusion of identified foods. However, I will explain the potential benefits and drawbacks of this type of testing prior to working together, so you can decide if it is right for you.

I understand how fear of digestive upset and food reactions can really undermine some people’s relationship with their food and body. And it works both ways, it is thought that disordered eating habits can exasperate disruptions to the microbiome and contribute to gut-related to symptoms. This is why I integrate Intuitive Eating tools and approaches into my programmes as appropriate in order to help promote a healthier psychological attitude whilst tackling gut issues, and because eating intuitively and mindfully can in itself help improve digestion.

The gut-brain axis refers to the bi-directional physical and chemical connections between your gut and brain. This is why it’s so important with all gut-related disorders that we consider your broader lifestyle, beyond nutritional health, and the interconnections between gastrointestinal function and stress levels, sleep, emotions and mental wellbeing, so you can take clear steps to address any areas of major discord. And I will provide guidance around some additional practices that you can adopt to support inner balance that are based on breath, movement, touch and mindfulness.

I have created a 3-month Rebalance package because in my experience, we can usually make a significant impact in that timeframe. Whilst your end goal may be to minimise or even eliminate digestive problems, you will appreciate that everyone is different and dependent on the nature, severity and length of your symptoms/condition and rate of improvement, the timeframe of working together may need to be longer than 3-months. If your digestive challenges are long-standing or complex, you still may experience immediate improvements but it is more likely improvements will occur in small increments over the course of six to twelve months. My aim is always to help you feel comprehensively supported through the process.
